The sizing logic
- Desk height ≈ 42% of your height — elbows rest at 90°, wrists straight.
- Monitor: top of screen at eye level, about an arm's length away (~50–70 cm).
- Chair: feet flat, knees at 90°, 2–3 fingers gap behind the knee.
- Long sitting days push the recommendation toward an adjustable desk and better support.
Frequently asked questions
Is an expensive chair really worth it?
For 7+ hours a day, yes — a chair you sit in for 1,500+ hours a year is one of the highest-return purchases you can make. If budget is tight, fix screen height and wrist position first, then upgrade the chair when you can.
My monitor is too low — do I need a new desk?
No. A riser, stack of books, or monitor arm lifts the screen to eye level for under $50 and fixes most "text neck." Only go higher-end if you already have a good chair.
When should I see a doctor instead of tweaking my setup?
If pain lasts more than a couple of weeks, radiates down the arm, includes numbness, or is getting worse, stop self-treating and see a professional. This tool cannot diagnose anything.
Should I stand at the desk all day?
No — the best setup alternates. Aim for small posture changes every 30–45 minutes; a height-adjustable desk helps, but standing all day has its own issues.
